DREAM CREATOR HANHO

For Bob Morane we worked with three overseas animation studios:

The studio we found in China was an unfortunate choice, as it was a mediocre studio in transition that really dropped the ball on the series (in spite of some good elements who eventually founded another studio that I later worked with on another project). We were obliged to dump them which is no mean feat in the middle of a production.

Aramada studio in Vietnam headed by Vincent Monluc did some great episodes, but their level of experience was too low to

     lead  the project.

The animation for the series was principally carried by the well-known Korean animation studio, Hanho:

We had a really great relationship with President Kim Seok-Ki who was responsive to the needs of the series. I think our producers negotiated a very good price, but we always felt that our series was particularly appreciated by the artistic staff at the studio, and I tried to do everything to make things run smoothly and the please them. I think that the project happened at a fortuitous time, and most of the studios best artists were available for the whole production.

The work was very high quality, and some episodes from certain teams were fantastic. I remember checking the animation line-test for one of the 'Yellow Shadow' episodes, and asking for only ONE retake! (Retakes can normally be about 30 or 40 % of each 375 or 400 scene 22 minute episode, and there can be usually 3 levels of retaking!)

Working with Hanho remains one of my BEST experiences as a director. Thanks Hanho!
